The EticWood classified forests project
Ten years of biodiversity monitoring, ecological surveillance and protection of Ivorian forests.
Since 2026, Akatia has been involved in an ambitious 10-year conservation and rehabilitation project for Côte d'Ivoire's classified forests. ENI, an energy supplier, commissioned EticWood to implement conservation activities in 14 classified forests. Biodiversity monitoring is one of the project's pillars, supporting decisions and guiding species conservation strategies. Monitoring began in our concessions in the Yapo-Abbé and Comoé 1 classified forests.
Monitoring and protecting forests
The main objective is twofold: to monitor and protect these forests. The monitoring component, already signed and underway, is based on rigorous ecological surveys. It includes installing camera traps, walking transects to detect wildlife signs and analysing the condition of the flora. These observations also reveal the spread of illegal activities such as logging and cocoa cultivation.
The project enables Akatia to strengthen its forest presence through a project coordinator, a primatology researcher and eco-guards supported by the Special Surveillance and Intervention Brigade (BSSI). This increased human presence is already helping deter illegal intrusions and strengthen the protection of natural areas and their wildlife.
